👤 Set your skill level

Choose your riding level so your stable can match you to lessons and horses; the stable confirms it.

Your skill level tells your stable how experienced you are, so it can book you onto lessons and give you horses that suit you. You choose your level yourself and your stable confirms it.

Choose your skill level

  1. Open the menu in the top-right corner and select Account settings.

  2. Find your skill level under Rider details.

  3. Select a level to read its description, and choose the level that matches how you ride.

The text above the levels tells you whether your home stable uses Hopoti's default skill levels or its own. A new or changed level shows as unconfirmed until your stable confirms it, for example once an instructor has seen you ride.

For a child, switch to your child's account with Switch account in the menu in the top-right corner, then follow the same steps.

The Skill Level section in a rider's Account settings: the note Your home stable uses default Hopoti skill levels. Adjust the setting to match your skill level., the five levels No experience, Beginner, Basic skills, Advanced and Experienced with Basic skills selected, and its description: I can ride walk, trot and canter and know my way around the arena. I can tack the horse without assistance.

Hopoti's default skill levels

Every stable uses the same five levels. Unless your stable has its own titles, you see these titles and descriptions:

  • No experience: I have not ridden a horse before, I need assistance.

  • Beginner: I can steer a horse in walk and trot.

  • Basic skills: I can ride walk, trot and canter and know my way around the arena. I can tack the horse without assistance.

  • Advanced: I am familiar with equestrian vocabulary. My technical riding abilities include leg yielding in trot and small circles in canter.

  • Experienced: I can ride different types of horses. My technical riding abilities include shoulder-in, half-pass and counter canter.

If your stable uses its own skill level titles

A stable can give the five levels its own titles and descriptions. At that stable, you see its titles and descriptions when you choose your level and when you book. Everywhere else in Hopoti, you see Hopoti's default titles. Your level stays the same: only its title and description change, so read your stable's descriptions carefully before you choose.

If you ride at several stables

You have one skill level on your Hopoti account, whichever stable you ride at. If you've added several stables as favourites, use the drop-down menu in the skill level section of Account settings to see each stable's levels and descriptions. If your stables describe their levels differently, choose your level by the stable where you ride most, usually your home stable.

If you can't book a lesson at your level

Some stables only let you book lessons at or below your confirmed skill level. At these stables, until your level is confirmed, you can book only lessons at the lowest level (No experience, unless your stable uses its own titles), so ask your stable to confirm your level.

If your level is confirmed and you still can't book, see I can't book a lesson.
