Hopoti has four ways to sell riding in advance: Stablecards, Passes, gift cards and Memberships. This overview helps you pick the right one for your stable.
Passes used to be called Memberships. They work as before, and your own pass names stay as they are. Memberships now means the new monthly Memberships for weekly lessons.
This table compares Stablecards, Passes, gift cards and Memberships side by side.
| Stablecards | Passes | Gift cards | Memberships |
What it is | A card with credits, for example 10 lesson credits | A one-off purchase that gives the rider tags for a set period | A voucher for something you choose, such as a private lesson or a camp | The rider joins one weekly lesson and keeps their place every week |
How riders pay | Once, online, in your Shop or while booking | Once, in your Shop | Once, in your Shop | The first month online when joining, then a monthly invoice they pay online |
How riders use it | Credits book the lessons and services the card suits | The Pass's tags let them book or see what needs those tags | You give the service and mark the card used, or pay a lesson from it when you add the rider; riders can't book with it | They're booked into every future date of the lesson |
When it ends | When the credits are used or the card expires | When its validity ends; a Pass doesn't renew | When you mark it used, or it expires | When the rider gives notice or you end it |
Where you set it up | Cards > Stablecards | Cards > Passes | Cards > Gift cards | Memberships in the admin menu |

Stablecards are also how riders get credit back: when a rider cancels in time and your cancellation policy gives credit, they get a Stablecard to book another lesson (see Choose your cancellation policies). Stablecards can't be used to pay invoices.
You set up Stablecards, Passes and gift cards on the Cards page, each on its own tab:
Which one to choose
A set number of lessons or visits paid up front: a Stablecard. See Create and sell Stablecards.
Unlimited use for a period, or lessons and prices only for some riders: a Pass. See Sell Passes for time-limited access.
A present: a gift card. See Sell and redeem gift cards.
The same weekly lesson month after month: a Membership. See Set up a monthly Membership for lessons.
A whole term of lessons, paid in full or in instalments: no card needed, sell the lesson series as a season. See Sell a season with instalments or a booking deposit.
To give a rider a Stablecard yourself, or change one they have, see Give, edit or extend a rider's Stablecard.
Give some riders a lower price
You can charge some riders less than others in these ways:
Sell a discounted Stablecard that only riders with a certain tag can buy. See Create and sell Stablecards.
Give Pass holders a cheaper or free service option, such as arena hire. See Sell Passes for time-limited access.
Give a member their own monthly price when you add them to a Membership. See Follow up Memberships: members, invoices and notice.
Set the price yourself when you add a rider to lessons with a payment plan. See Change how a rider pays with a payment plan.
The first two use tags, which are on the Growth, Pro and Ultimate plans. Earlier plans (from before September 2026) include them too.
Available today
Memberships are available on the Pro and Ultimate plans. New features like this aren't part of earlier plans (from before September 2026). Message our team to get access.
Today, each Membership covers one weekly lesson at a fixed monthly price. Riders join on the lesson's booking page, pay the first month online and are booked into every future date of the lesson. After that, they get a monthly invoice and pay it online until they give notice or you end the Membership. Because riders pay online, your stable needs online payments.
Coming soon
We're adding more to Memberships, such as:
Several weekly lessons in one Membership, with one monthly invoice.
Changing a member's weekly lesson, by the rider or by your staff.
