🎟️ Sell and redeem gift cards

Sell gift cards, issue one by hand, and redeem it by marking it used or paying a lesson from it.

Sell gift cards for a private lesson, a camp or another service, and keep track of which ones are still open. You need to be an Administrator or an Instructor.

Riders can't pay with a gift card

Riders can't use a gift card to pay for bookings or Stablecards themselves. When a rider wants to use one, you agree the time with them, give the service and mark the gift card used. For a lesson, you can also add the rider to it yourself and pay from their gift card.

Create a gift card for sale

  1. In the admin menu, open Cards and click the Gift cards tab.

  2. Click Gift cards for sale, then New gift card.

  3. Enter a Name, for example "Private lesson gift card".

  4. In Description, say what the rider gets and how to redeem it, for example "One 45-minute private lesson. Message us to book your time."

  5. Enter the Price (including taxes) and choose the VAT %.

  6. Under Valid until, set how long the gift card lasts: a number of months, weeks or days from purchase, or until a date.

  7. Leave Tags – limit card buying at All Users so anyone can buy it.

  8. Click Add.

The New gift card window filled in: Name Private lesson gift card, Description One 45-minute private lesson. Message us to book your time., the tip about writing a detailed description, Price 65.00 €, VAT % 13.5, Valid until 12 months from purchase, Tags – limit card buying All Users, and the Add and Cancel buttons.

What happens next

  • Riders find the gift card in your Shop under Gift card. They can buy it for someone else. If you've added a booking fee, the price riders see includes it.

  • Bought gift cards show in Cards > Gift cards > Valid and on the owner's client card under Cards > Gift cards. The Gift cards tab on the Clients page lists everyone with a valid gift card.

  • A gift card that isn't used by its Valid until date moves to Expired.

  • Editing or deleting a gift card on sale doesn't change gift cards already sold.

Redeem a gift card

  1. Agree with the rider when they'll use the gift card, and give them the service.

  2. In Clients, click the rider's name and open the Cards tab, then Gift cards.

  3. Click the pencil on the gift card.

  4. Mark the gift card as used. If the rider used only part of its value, lower the value to what's left instead.

  5. Save the change.

A gift card marked as used moves to Used in Cards > Gift cards. In the same edit form you can also change a gift card's Valid until date, for example to give a rider more time.

If the gift card is for a lesson, you can also pay the lesson from it: when you add the rider to the lesson yourself, choose their gift card under Choose payment type. See Manage riders on a lesson.

Open this section if you give a gift card yourself.

If you issue a gift card by hand

To give a rider a gift card without them buying it in Hopoti, for example a prize or a voucher paid another way:

  1. In Clients, click the rider's name and open the Cards tab, then Gift cards.

  2. Click New gift card.

  3. Enter the Gift card name, an optional Description and the Value.

  4. Check Valid until. It's 3 months from today unless you change it.

  5. Click Add.

The gift card then shows on the rider's Gift cards tab. Redeem it the same way as a bought one.
