👥 Set up skill levels and confirm riders' levels

Use Hopoti's levels or your own titles and descriptions, and confirm the level each rider has chosen.

Skill levels help riders find lessons that suit them and help you choose suitable horses. Every rider picks a level in their account, and your staff confirm it.

Hopoti's five skill levels

Every stable has the same five levels: No experience, Beginner, Basic skills, Advanced and Experienced. You can't add or remove levels, but you can give each one your own skill level title and description. Hopoti's default titles and descriptions are under Settings > Rules > Skill Levels.

Use your own skill level titles

You need Administrator permissions to change your skill level titles, because they're in Settings.

  1. Go to Settings > Rules and find Skill Levels.

  2. Choose Custom skill levels.

  3. Open a level's tab, for example No experience.

  4. Under Custom, type the level's title in Name and a short Description.

  5. Select Save. Repeat for each level you want to change.

Riders now see your titles and descriptions at your stable, for example when they choose their level. Elsewhere in Hopoti, and for any level with an empty Name, they see Hopoti's default titles.

A rider still has one level on their account, whichever stable they ride at. Your titles don't appear on forms, waivers or their PDFs.

The Skill Levels section with Custom skill levels selected, the five level tabs from No experience to Experienced, the struck-through default text, and under Custom the Name First steps and a short Description, with the Save button.

Confirm a rider's skill level

Riders choose their level in their account settings. A new or changed level stays unconfirmed until your staff confirm it. Administrator and Instructor staff can confirm levels.

  1. Select Clients in the admin menu and open the Skill level unconfirmed tab.

  2. Select Extra Info at the top right if it isn't already selected, and check the rider's level in the Level column.

  3. Select Confirm.

The rider leaves the Skill level unconfirmed list. If they change their level later, it's unconfirmed again.

Only riders can change the level on their own account. If a level is wrong, ask the rider to change it (see Set your skill level), then confirm the new level.

The Skill level unconfirmed tab on the Clients page (Extra info view) listing riders with their skill level, a Confirm button next to it, and their weight and height.

How skill levels work on lessons and horses

  • Lessons: Select minimum rider skill on a lesson shows riders which level it's meant for. By default it doesn't stop riders below that level from booking.

  • Horses: a horse's Max rider level, with its rider weight and height limits, helps Horse assign show which horses suit each rider. See Assign horses to riders and print the day list.

You can also make a lesson's minimum level a rule for booking:

If riders must have a confirmed level to book

Switch on Require confirmed skill levels under Settings > Settings > Default settings. Riders can then book a lesson only if their confirmed level is at least the lesson's minimum level. Riders without a confirmed level can only book No experience lessons.

The setting is off by default. It can make booking much harder for new riders, so confirm levels quickly if you use it.

If skill levels don't work as expected

  • A rider below the level booked a lesson: Require confirmed skill levels is off, so the minimum level is only a guide.

  • A rider can't book a lesson at their level: if Require confirmed skill levels is on, their level may not be confirmed yet. Look for them under Skill level unconfirmed.

  • Riders still see Hopoti's titles: check that Custom skill levels is chosen and that you saved each level with a Name.

Still stuck? Message our team in the chat with the rider's name and the lesson they tried to book.
