💳 Start taking online payments

Set up Stripe, or Paytrail in Finland, get verified and published, and check your payment status.

Set up online payments so riders can book and pay online and the money is paid out to your bank account. You need Administrator permissions, because it's done in Settings.

Before you start

  • Have your company, bank account and key people's details to hand.

  • Check your currency in Settings > Settings > Business details. Only our team can change it, so if it's wrong, message us first.

  • Businesses in Finland use Paytrail instead of Stripe, and our team sets up the Paytrail account with you.

Set up online payments with Stripe

  1. Go to Settings > Payments.

  2. Under Payment provider, select Fill in Stripe information. Stripe's own form opens.

  3. Fill in your company details, your key people and your bank account, and send the form.

  4. Wait for Stripe to verify your details. You can carry on setting up your stable meanwhile.

  5. When the Payment provider box shows Enabled, select Ready to publish? on the setup progress bar and answer the questions in the chat that opens.

Our team reviews your request and publishes your business. Riders can then book and pay online, and the money is paid out to your bank account (see When your money arrives: payouts and Stripe). To change your company or bank details later, use Fill in Stripe information again.

Check your payment status

The Payment provider box in Settings > Payments shows Enabled (green) when online payments work, with your payout schedule and bank account. Disabled (red) means something is missing: the badges show what. Hopoti published - No means riders can't book or pay yet because your business isn't published.

Settings, Payments tab: the Payment provider box showing Enabled with the badges Bank account information - Confirmed, Company information - Confirmed and Hopoti published - Yes, Payouts active weekly on Monday with a 2-day delay, the masked bank account, the Fill in Stripe information button, and the info box about applying to the payment provider.

Which payment methods riders see

Riders pay by card, Apple Pay, Google Pay or Link, or with local methods that are on by default where supported, such as Revolut Pay in Ireland and the UK, and Pay by Bank in the UK. For another method, such as Revolut Pay in another euro country, message our team.

With Paytrail in Finland, riders pay with Finnish online banking, cards, MobilePay, Apple Pay, Google Pay or pay-later options.

Businesses in Finland and the United States

Open the part that fits your business:

If your business is in Finland

Businesses in Finland take online payments through Paytrail, not Stripe. Our team creates your Paytrail account:

  1. In Settings > Payments, select the button to ask for a payment provider link. It opens the chat, and your request comes to our team.

  2. Our team creates your Paytrail account and sends you the link.

  3. Follow the link to Paytrail and complete your contract there.

  4. When your Paytrail contract is done, select Ready to publish? on the setup progress bar to get your business published.

If your business is in the United States

US businesses also fill in Bank account information in Settings > Payments: enter the Account Number and the Routing Number (9 characters) and select Save. Payouts go to this account, so check the details carefully.

Your 1099-K tax form is under Archive > Stripe > Documents (see Online Payment Reporting (IRS Form 1099-K)). To let riders pay from their US bank account, see Accept bank payments (ACH) from US riders.

If online payments aren't working

Check these in order:

  1. The Payment provider box shows Disabled: add what the badges show is missing with Fill in Stripe information.

  2. It shows Hopoti published - No: select Ready to publish? on the setup progress bar (see Register your business on Hopoti).

  3. A verification banner shows in Settings or the Archive (you also get an email): Stripe needs more information. Complete it with Fill in Stripe information soon, as open requests can interrupt payments and payouts.

  4. Payouts don't arrive: check the bank account in the Payment provider box, then see When your money arrives: payouts and Stripe.

  5. Only one rider's payment fails: it's usually the rider's card or bank. Ask them to try another way to pay, or send them My payment failed or I was charged twice.

Still stuck? Message our team in the chat with your business name and what the Payment provider box shows. For a single failed payment, add the rider's name and when they tried to pay.
